MINISTRY THEME FOR 2010: "ASSURED OF GOD'S FAITHFULNESS."
A new year has arrived brimming with hope and excitement for us as we joyfully anticipate the good things that God will do in our midst. As we rejoice in the present and ponder our path forward, we are reminded of the Apostle Paul’s words to the Philippians in which he assured the church that “He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ.” The divinely-initiated good work to which Paul referred was the Philippians’ sacrificial partnership with Paul in the advancement of the gospel. At First Colony Bible Chapel, we believe that we fundamentally share that same God-given directive – to advance the gospel and make disciples of the nations. Accordingly, we strive together to focus our efforts and resources toward that end. Philippians 1:6 reminds us, however, of the true Source of any and all success that we might consequently enjoy. The basis of our confidence is not rooted ultimately in our collective abilities or efforts, but the character of the God whose commission we seek to carry out. God is the one who has begun the work and He is the one who will bring it to fruition. Paul was certain that the Philippians would not waver in their heart-felt commitment to spreading the good news of eternal life in Christ. But Paul’s trust was rooted in a profound theological truth: that what God begins He finishes. The divine initiative to begin the work includes the divine commitment for completion. Paul was unwavering in his assurance of God’s faithfulness as he rejoiced in the Philippians’ willingness to partake in both the glory and the suffering that comes with sharing in the gospel of Jesus Christ. Thus, with a kindred spirit, as we lay plans for the coming year and consider the open doors before us, we have adopted as our ministry theme for 2010 that we are “Assured of God’s Faithfulness.” This theme signifies that our trust and confidence are in Him alone. He will build His church; He will finish the work that He has begun in us. And for that and all else that we are blessed with in Christ, to Him be the glory both now and forever. Amen.
